The Monarch Butterfly (Danaus Plexippus) is so breathtakingly beautiful, it has inspired some of fashion's most celebrated creations including Luly Yang's Monarch Butterfly Dress in her 2011 Metamophorsis Collection. A dress so beautiful, it inspired me to write a fantasy, which was meant to be a short story but turned out to be a very whimsical, fun poem.
The Butterfly Princess
Once upon a time, there was a wee princess who lived in a tree
She had so much to do, she forgot to watch out for bees!
One day, her winged friends brought tidings of great grief
-The great butterfly clan was under siege!
So, she packed her armor of pure golden leaves
And rose to meet the king of bees!
But alas! The butterflies were tied with silken strings
The kind princess lost hope, and called out into the morning breeze!
The morning breeze hearkened, and replied with a gale of freeze
And, the crafty bees, one by one, they all had to flee!
The princess was crowned by the butterfly queen
And became known as "the Guardian of Peace"!
And to this very day, she wears a mantle of silken butterfly wings.
THE END.
Inspiration:
I also found many beautiful fashion pieces inspired by the graceful Monarch Butterfly. These are not for the faint of heart or the stoic of soul, but for those who dare to dream, who believe in fairies and happily-ever-afters and those who give life to their whims!
Music: The Monarch Butterfly Influence
The beauty of the Monarch Butterfly is not obvious to fashion lovers only, it has also found its place in popular music, and has become so popular that the illuminati-watch crowd have latched on to it and sought to discover the basis for its influence. But that isn't on my watch-list, the beauty of these amazing butterflies alone compels me.
